detainees in the UK

There is a rising number of detention centres in Britain where migrants and refugees are locked up indefinitely, for many months or even years just for trying to flee war, danger and poverty. These are own Guantanamo Bays. Almost nobody knows that they exist. Only a few miles from Brighton there is a major detention centre in Gatwick! Hundreds of thousands of commuters and travellers pass it every day, and they do know that such a place exists there, in their name. Look around, there  might be a detention centre close to you – closer than what you think!

Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group (facebook) is working to improve the welfare and well-being of people held in local detention centres, by offering friendship and support and advocating for fair treatment.

Brighton Against Detention (BAD) (facebook) is a grassroots activist group working in solidarity with people affected by detention and the immigration system in the UK.

Detention Action (admin@detentionaction.org.uk) support people held in Harmondsworth and Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centres.
