refugees living in Brighton & Sussex

Brighton Migrant Solidarity (facebook # brimigsol@riseup.net)  runs a number of initiatives in Brighton and beyond. The Thousand41000 campaign aims to recruit 1000 donors to give £1 per month each to provide secure rented accommodation for vulnerable migrants. They also run a Destitution Solidarity Fund and the Spare Room Network linking those ‘able to provide accommodation and people made destitute by the Home Office who are in need of accommodation’.

Sanctuary on Sea (facebook) is part of City of Sanctuary, a national network of local groups involving businesses, community organisations and individuals who share a “belief that sanctuary seekers should be welcomed, and that their contribution to society should be celebrated”. They also organise local events to raise public awareness of the plight of refugees.

Brighton Voices in Exile (facebook # contact@bvie.co.uk # 01273 328598) is a charity working to enable, accompany and support asylum seekers and refugees in Sussex and Surrey, offering destitution support and free immigration and legal advice to asylum seekers and refugees. It is always looking for volunteers to help out locally.

Migrant English Project (mepbrighton12@gmail.com) provides free and informal English lessons and a safe and welcoming space were people can receive support and advice.

Refugee Radio (facebook) is a local radio programme in partnership with Radio Reverb,  playing the music that refugees brought with them to the UK. It is a platform for refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants to tell their own stories to their new communities.
